A beautiful reflection on your process of collage . I do agree it’s a truly liberating art form and is freeing like no other kind of art expression for me . I love to paint, and make observational sketches - but collage is where my mind is able to wander and explore !
I cut some of my collages up and turn them into handmade cards and every now and then someone writes a note on one and sends it back to me and it's the most beautiful thing.
Beautifully written and illustrated Fiona. I really do find the unexpectedness of collaging very interesting. I also find the idea that it does not need to be done perfectly very liberating and it is this private creative quiet time where there is no judgement from anyone especially from me! is what makes this kind of work fascinating. I was over at Logie Steading bookshop today and noticed some ready made packs for the use of collaging and scrapbooking. I was very tempted to buy one and will give it some thought, not sure why but something stopped me, perhaps I have other unknown ideas still to surface that I need to explore first, the important thing is that I saw this today and know where I can buy them.
What I didn’t say and should have is that sometimes I just make collage fodder. Wee marks on paper, wee stitchers etc do that I have them for when the mood takes me. Magazines are my go to as well for collaging xx
Gosh, I really do need to do some physical, analogue collating with paper and glue and such. It sounds so playful and carefree - and it’s been way too long! ❤️
This is very inspiring. I love the idea of starting with a word and growing from there. Thank you. x
My pleasure. Enjoy

Very inspiring ✨...what sort of paper do you use as your base?
I tend to use 300gsm watercolour or mixed media paper so I can throw everything at it! X
Love your collage!
aw thank you. x
