Oh a beautiful post💚 I love the white paper exercise and how you use what you gather. I started nature journaling a 1 1/2 ago and it has changed my life. I have often thought that it should be taught in school. I love Edith Holden’s nature diary too, such an inspiration🌿

Such a wonderful idea to document, thank you for the inspiration. I’ve struggled for years to disconnect my expectations of the seasons from the reality. I’ve seen significant changes and the effects of climate change while observing the garden, wildlife and hedgerows in recent years and have often felt that the world is somehow broken. But just when I’ve given up on spring arriving or something ever growing, sure enough there it is. Maybe it isn’t completely broken, only shifting. And we need to shift our expectations and observations in order to understand it again.

You are so right, it is a shift. But the deep connections mean we are invested. If we were all invested at this sort of level I think we stand a chance. xx

We share the same favorite literary heroines. Based on this, I think you might also like Betsy Ray from the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace, and Cassandra Mortmain from I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith.

I am absolutely going to get a piece of paper and gather items on a specific day each month in order to start curating my own seasonal observations. What an incredible idea and way to document the seasons! 🫶🏻

Good for you and the most important thing is that it is your own personal seasonal record x

Very informative thank you. We noticed Feverfew yesterday for the first time growing by the boat yard. I had to look up your bacon and egg plant as I have never heard of it before though do know it as common bird's foot trefoil. I do have a question about foxgloves as I noticed on a vlog a woman had some in her home as cut flowers! I was always brought up to believe the leaves and the whole of this plant are best not handled and come under the poisonous label, is this a myth as I have never been sure about this plant? I was certainly unaware about butterflies nesting in long grass though thinking about it it does make sense. I was wondering why I haven't seen many butterflies this year, though our Buddleia is in bloom now so I should notice them more. We have a wild garden. Brilliant post!

Love feverfew, it has to be one of my favourites at this time of year. Yes foxgloves are poisonous but as long as you wash your hands you are fine. I have worked pressed them all my life and never had a problem. The problems begin if you injest. I don't think I would have them as cut flowers in the house though as I have cats and a dog. x
